Muse, which opened in November 2015 is owned and run by married couple Allan and Simone Bezuidenhout. Muse offers Nouvelle cuisine which means the aim is on serving the best and freshest ingredients available with emphasis on presentation.

We see food as an art form and chefs as the artist. We stay inspired by changing our menu seasonally. This keeps it fun and fresh for both our patrons and chefs.

Muse has a relaxed atmosphere and suggests making an evening of it as our food takes time and care to prepare.

Muse has become my number 1 favourite restaurant in the Eastern Cape. The food presentations never disappoints, the food itself is devine as I’ve had most of the what’s on the menu, there’ll be new additions soon I was told (can’t wait), the atmosphere is always giving positive vibes and calming. The staff is great 😌 …… I always recommend this place to all friends visiting, one day I’ll take my Mom here, she’ll love it. Keep it up guys!!

The waitress didn't know what personal space is she could've just come sit on our lap.
Bathroom wasn't clean.
The food wasn't that great.

In my opinion this is a fine dining experience in Port Elizabeth.
Nice setting with well spaced tables and good lighting.
The staff were very professional and knowledgeable about the menu and where they didn't know they went to the kitchen to check with the chef.
I like this approach as it's professional, honest and avoids expectation gaps and surprises.
Good selection of dishes and was able to find an excellent kudu carpaccio starter and a fantastic Pea Lemon & Leak risotto as a main.
Desert was a Vanilla Pod Creme Brûlée Mille feuille that constituted a really good closing dish.
All dishes well executed and very nicely presented.
Kitchen is run by a husband and wife who split the courses.
They both had pervious careers that they ditched to follow their passion and love for food and I'm pleased they did as it shows in the food.
Good wine list , but it can push the bill up.
Price quality ratio was fair given the quality of food and overall dining experience.
Definitely worth a visit.

Great food in a quaint fine dining setup without the pretense! The Chef tries to meet with the guests for feedback which is nice to see! Most of the dishes are 5 stars except for the pork belly which could use some contrasting flavors to cut through the fattiness—-maybe some acid, sour contrast to sweet and fatty elements and for me a definite should have been a piece or some pieces of crackling/pork rinds. This would have made it to 5 star.
If the Chef would like to possibly consider my humble suggestion 🫣:

Indochine Pork Belly, kumquat-lime crème, seasonal roots in a light tamarind demi-glace finished with artisanal pickles and explosive crackling shards!

Went back in January 2026 and since we cannot really upload new reviews I am adding to this one. Chicken peri peri thigh was disappointing and felt like it was frozen or has been in the fridge for a while. It was dry though it was chicken thigh. My wife ordered the chicken butter curry with naan but disappointingly there was no naan but a poorly executed roti. The curry had fair flavor and creamy texture except for the chicken again which was not grilled first but felt boiled or simmered directly in the sauce with lots of carrot notes and cardamom. You can please comment and tell me if that is a naan or not! The achard be it carrot or ginger were also below par.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! Our server, Emma, was extremely kind, attentive, and professional, which made us feel very welcome from the start. The dishes were absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. We also tried the desserts, which were just as delightful and a perfect finish to the meal. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and everything about our visit exceeded our expectations. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and excellent service.

We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at Muse! The atmosphere was inviting and beautifully curated, and the service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. Although the vegan and gluten-free options are limited, every single dish we had was exceptional - thoughtfully prepared, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavor. From vibrant starters to hearty mains, the quality and creativity truly exceeded our expectations. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into catering for all dietary needs. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an elevated and inclusive dining experience. We’ll definitely be back!

A special thanks to the head chef and owner Alan - his warmth, passion, and deep knowledge were evident in every dish. It was a pleasure to meet someone so genuinely invested in creating a memorable experience.

SIMONE

Simone studied at Capsicum Culinary studio in Port Elizabeth where she got her diploma in food preparation, pastry and management. During that time she also furthered her knowledge by doing chocolate courses at the Lindt studio in Cape Town.

She started working at the Boardwalk Hotel as part of the opening team of the 5 star property. She started off as a commis chef and in 3 years there worked herself up to Pastry Sous chef.

Simone says her passion is definitely Pastry but Muse has taught her the importance of being a good all-round chef. She loves how much she has grown in this aspect since they started Muse.

ALLAN

After Allan left school he did a very short stint studying Accounting, and very quickly realized that it was definitely not for him. He then decided to travel the UK and started working at the Angel Hotel as a barman. He did a couple of extra shifts as a sculler in the kitchen. Allan says, I fell in love with the craziness, from there on out I wanted to be a chef. From sculler he became a commis chef.

After returning to South Africa he worked at some small properties and worked my way up to Head chef. While working he studied part time at Capsicum Culinary Studio to get his diploma in food preparation.

Allan was also part of the opening team for the Boardwalk Hotel. He started as a Sous Chef and worked himself up to Executive Sous chef before him and Simone decided to open their own restaurant.

Allan believes that as a chef/restauranteur you have a responsibility towards nature and that you should leave a green foot print as far as possible.
